Psychedelics are not right for everyone - they can be destabilizing and overwhelming for sensitive patients. Psycholytics are a highly effective alternative that most therapists have not yet discovered.

Psycholytic Therapy: "Go low, and go slow"

Psycholytic ketamine is unique opportunity to increase the efficacy of your regular psychotherapy. It produces a state where patients remain fully oriented and are able to direct their attention effectively, but are unresistant, undefended, prone to insight, and highly neuroplastic. Therapists who use psycholytic ketamine in their practices routinely report that it produces some of the most impactful work of their careers, especially around trauma and PTSD. We want to give you the opportunity to enhance your own practice like this.

This program is for licensed therapists interested in incorporating innovative techniques into their practices. At Joyous, we’ve worked with over 40,000 patients who have experienced transformative results with this medicine on its own. In combination with therapy, they can experience even greater healing.

We’re now expanding to collaborate with therapists like you, and are happy to invite you to  participate in this research program, which supports therapy with psycholytics. As a member of the Joyous Psycholytic Therapist Program, you'll gain access to cutting-edge psycholytic (microdose) ketamine therapy.

This is a gentle, safe treatment that doesn't induce psychedelia or dissociation. Instead, patients experience enhanced relaxation and mental clarity, paving the way for breakthroughs in therapy.

We believe that psycholytic therapy has the potential to be as impactful for patients as psychedelic therapy, if not more so. The reason we believe this is that while psychedelic therapy often leads to insights, psycholytic therapy allows patients to build psychological skills and mental habits in a sustainable and long-lasting way because they are fully oriented and present during their sessions.

To test our hypotheses, we are engaging in a preliminary pilot study to examine the effects of psycholytic ketamine on therapy. If our pilot study demonstrates promise, our next phase will include double-blinded randomization.

History of Psycholytic Therapy

"Psycholytic," means "soul-dissolving," but "ego loosening" may be more appropriate. The term was first used by British psychiatrist Dr. Ronald Sandison, a pioneer in the use of LSD in psychotherapy. Sandison's method involved repeated sessions where LSD was administered in gradually increasing doses. His aim was to find an optimal dosage that would enhance traditional therapy by allowing patients more access to their subconscious minds while remaining fully oriented and able to engage with therapy. The approach facilitating a more profound therapeutic experience. This form of treatment was not solely about the psychedelic experience itself but about integrating with psychotherapy in order to help patients to build psychological skills and habits. This integrative approach helped patients confront and process psychological issues and traumas gradually, with the guidance of a therapist. The famed psychedelic psychologist Stanislav Grof also worked with psycholytic doses in order to facilitate access to the unconscious mind.  According to Dr. Grof, this approach aids in psychoanalysis and helps patients explore and resolve deep-seated emotional issues and traumas.
